The course is dedicated to the possibilities of using literature in language teaching in primary and secondary schools. Special attention is paid to Spanish written literature for children and teenagers, to simplified version of classical Spanish literature and to film adaptation of literary works. Students will work with literary texts and movies and they will create worksheets for use in Spanish lessons.
The course provides students with literature of Latin American countries from the American Conquest and Spanish colonization to the literature of the period of the battles of independence in the 19th century, Latin-American romanticism with the generation of 1840 and 1870, modernism at the turn of the 19th and the 20th century and the literature of the first half the 20th century.
The course is dedicated to analysis of major literary works in context of historical events in the Spanish speaking countries. The students will learn to think about the literary canon, its evolution in time and about the relationship between literature and history. Special attention will be paid to theoretical text and application of the theories to literary works.
The aim of the course is a detailed analysis of selected short stories of the Hispanoamerican Literature of the 20th and 21st centuries.Students are encouraged to interpret the selected short stories bearing in mind always the historical and literary context.
