The subject of "Textile Maintenance" is focused on connection of general properties of fibers, textile theory and real procedures used in textile maintenance. At the end of the course students should be able to understand the principles of all common methods in textile maintenance in a broader technical and historical context. Students will be acquainted in detail with the following procedures: washing of textiles, dry cleaning, identification and stain removal, bleaching of textiles, ironing, drying. The problems of color fastness, marking of textile materials will be discussed. Great attention is paid to the chemical nature of chemicals used in textile maintenance and to the basic properties of textile fibers. The course will also present historical aspects of production and maintenance of textiles, including their restoration and preservation for museum purposes
